Diabetes Mellitus Type 1: Diagnosis & Management
Released: July 27, 2015
Expires: August 31, 2017
- CE for this activity will not be available after this date.
Type 1 diabetes (due to beta-cell destruction usually leading to absolute insulin deficiency) presents challenges for properly diagnosing the young, old and in-between. While the management of type 1 diabetes requires insulin as first line pharmacological therapy, it also requires intensive diabetes education and ongoing support to effectively and safely prescribe insulin regimes throughout the patient’s life cycle. This activity discusses the different approaches to treating and/or supporting patients with type 1 diabetes in all practices settings.
This session was recorded during the 2014 AANP Specialty Conference. The full session is presented here in a MP4 format with a posttest review. Please Note: If you have already received credit for a specific course offered at an AANP conference, you may NOT claim additional credit for the same course in a different format.
After completion of this activity participants will be better able to:
• Review the incidence, prevalence and burden of T1DM
• Discuss classification, pathophysiology and diagnosing of T1DM
• Discuss the important of diabetes self-management education and ongoing support
• Discuss effects of hypoglycemia on treatment and management of T1DM
