Overview This presentation reviews non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD. A brief overview of ADHD will be described following defining NSSI. The relationship between ADHD and NSSI will be discussed from current evidence. Mediating and moderating factors will then be discussed for a more in-depth understanding of the relationship between ADHD and NSSI. Lastly, treatment interventions for the mediating and moderating factors will be discussed with the goal to prevent children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD at risk for NSSI from engaging in the behavior.
Objectives
- Increase knowledge regarding the connection between children diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and non-suicidal self-injury.
- Identify mediating and moderating risk factors associated with NSSI in children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD.
- Identify pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for children and adolescents diagnosed with ADHD at risk for NSSI.
