Overview Back pain is one of the most common chief complaints in primary care from year to year. It estimated that 84% of adults will have low back pain at some point in their lives. This case-based continuing education module is geared toward the NP student or career starter but can also be a beneficial refresher for the seasoned NP in practice. This activity features Dr. Margaret Fitzgerald, a Family Nurse Practitioner with vast expertise in NP certification preparation and continuing education. Dr. Fitzgerald's presentation will provide evidence-based education that leads you through a case of acute back pain from presentation through management.
Discuss the prognosis for acute low back pain.
Review the role of NSAIDs, skeletal muscle relaxants, and other pharmacotherapies for management of acute low back pain.
