Overview This presentation will address health care disparities and related challenges that exist among black and brown persons, who identify as LGBTQIA+. There is a well-documented history of adversity towards these sexual, gender and racially diverse people who face discrimination on many levels including, housing, jobs, and health care. As racially marginalized persons they are already subject to increased rates of violence and death at a far greater rate than their White LGBTQIA+ peers. Because disparities are magnified for those who identify as LGBTQIA+, it is essential that health care providers understand the discrimination, bias, and related challenges specific to gender and minority diverse populations in our communities and identify strategies to eliminate stigmas against this population.
Objectives
- Understand the discrimination, bias, and related challenges specific to gender and minority diverse populations in our communities.
- Recognize the statistics affecting the healthcare needs of gender and minority diverse populations.
- Assess the health care system culture and examine ways to provide and implement resources into practice.
Speaker Dr. Vanessa Pomarico-Denino, EdD, FNP-BC, FAANP Dr. Linda Washington-Brown, PhD, EJD, PNP, ANP-C, FNP,FAANP, FAAN
