Overview Heart failure represents a growing public health crisis responsible for approximately 3 million hospitalizations annually in the United States. The recent STRONG-HF trial showed that rapid intensification of guideline-directed medical therapy is safe and well tolerated by patients. Despite the evidence, the focus of hospitalization is more often diuresis without intensification of oral therapy. This talk will look at the STRONG-HF trial and review GDMT in acute decompensated heart failure along with initiation and titration strategies. Objectives
Learner will identify patients at high risk for increased mortality associated with admission for acute decompensated heart failure.
Learner will understand the pathophysiology of acute decompensated heart failure and common triggers for decompensation.
Learner will identify appropriate pharmacologic therapy for management of acute decompensated heart failure in line with current guidelines.
Learner will identify appropriate titration and initiation strategies for pharmacologic therapy.
