A 2018 CDC report on suicide indicated that the rates have increased in all but one state since 1999, with more than half of the states reporting a 30% or greater increase. Primary care settings are absorbing the bulk of the treatment for psychiatric disorders, like depression. Depression is only one of the confounding factors in suicidal behavior and those providers in primary care must know how to assess for suicidality in all age groups. This presentation provides tools for assessment, identification and treatment of the suicidal client, as well as discussing individual and community wide interventions.
