    Overview

The rates of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are soaring to unprecedented heights in the US. Some estimates suggest that metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) impacts a staggering ~30% of the global populace, and as its prevalence continues to climb, MASLD and its most severe manifestation – metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) – is fast becoming one of the leading causes of liver-related morbidity, cirrhosis, and transplantation in the US.

    Objectives

    • Describe the expanding clinical gravity of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and characterize the need for streamlined evaluation, treatment, and referral pathways.
    • Identify high-risk patients for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) based on risk factors.
    • Utilize non-invasive diagnostic methods to diagnose and risk stratify patients with MASLD.
    • Create a multidisciplinary care plan for patients with MASH in alignment with current treatment guidelines. (SIM objective)
