Overview Diabetes and weight stigma may result in mental health issues and are significant barriers to achieving health goals and participating in medical regimens. This presentation will address challenges for people facing stigma and strategies for identifying and addressing these challenges.
Objectives
- Recognize the impact of diabetes stigma and weight stigma on people with diabetes.
- Recall strengths-based, person-centered language to improve communication with people with diabetes.
- Identify ways health care professionals can address stigma.
- Choose appropriate screening tools for diabetes distress, anxiety, and depression.
