Overview Promoting sexual health and encouraging male screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is a critical skill for all nurse practitioners (NP). NPs play a crucial role in advocating for and facilitating STI screening among male patients. STI screening guidelines for males, emphasizing the prevalence of STIs and their impact on individual and public health will be discussed. Many STIs present asymptomatically in males, making routine screening essential for early detection and treatment. Common barriers that may prevent males from seeking STI screening, such as stigma, misconceptions, and lack of awareness and understanding these barriers is key to developing effective strategies for promoting screening uptake. Practical strategies for NPs to promote STI screening among male patients including integrating screening discussions into routine healthcare visits, providing education on STIs and screening guidelines, and offering confidential and non-judgmental testing options at all visits will be addressed. Promoting STI screening for males is vital for preventing the spread of infections and improving individual health outcomes. By addressing barriers, engaging patients, and providing support, NPs can play a pivotal role in advancing sexual health and reducing STI transmission in our communities.
