Overview
This session explores the updated KDIGO guidelines for acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease in detail to enrich the learner's knowledge of this disease process and treatment. Complex pathophysiology, advanced diagnosis, etiologies, treatment modalities and long-term term considerations for patients with kidney injury are discussed. Safe-prescribing practices regarding certain nephrotoxic pharmacological agents and prevention and management of contrast induced nephropathy are discussed. Case studies are discussed to solidify discussion points.
Objectives
- Explore KDIGO Guidelines as they relate to Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
- Identify pharmacologic causes of AKI and CKD and medications used to treat the condition.
- Apply the KDGIO Guidelines for acute kidney injury to critical ill patients across multiple patient populations.
