Overview:
In the third and final episode of a podcast series on medical misinformation, nurse practitioners Dr. Ruth Carrico and Dr. Paula Tucker delve into actionable strategies for building patient trust and addressing misinformation in healthcare. They emphasize communication frameworks like the 3 E’s (Engage, Empathize, Educate), the 5 A’s (Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist, Arrange), motivational interviewing, and shared decision-making. These approaches are designed to shift conversations from correction to connection, promoting understanding, empathy, and collaboration between providers and patients. Both hosts stress the importance of humility, patient-centered care, and adapting communication strategies to different healthcare settings. Ultimately, they call on nurse practitioners to incorporate these techniques to foster trust and informed choices in an era dominated by misinformation.
This activity is an Accredited AANP Podcast Activity.
Learners will need to listen to the podcast through their preferred podcast provider (Search for "NP Pulse" and listen to Episode 149). - Listen to all of Episode 149. A participation code will be provided at the end. Make sure to write this code down! You will need this code to unlock access the the post-test and evaluation to complete the activity to earn your CE credit. The code will consist of a LETTERS and NUMBERS. When entering the code in the Participation Code field, make sure you enter the letters and numbers together (no space between them). Letters are not case sensitive.
- Return to the AANP CE Center. Click on the activity from your CE Activities list and then click the blue Next Steps button:
- A new window will open. Provide and submit the Participation Code, exactly as it was given at the end of the podcast, in the available text field.
- Complete the post-test.
