Overview
This presentation will review current epidemiology, diagnostic criteria, and pathophysiology of migraine. A focus on standard of care therapy and new treatment, including neuromodulatory devices, onabotulinum toxin A, and CGRP antagonists, will be presented. Selection of appropriate agents, both acute and preventative, will be discussed. Clinical signs associated with intracranial pathology will be reviewed.
Objectives
- Differentiate migraine from other primary and secondary headaches.
- Describe the pathophysiology of migraine and the link to CGRP antagonists and 5HTF1 agonists in acute treatment and prevention of this disorder.
- Identify appropriate candidates for standard of care and novel therapy in migraine acute and preventive treatment.
- Discuss mechanism of action, potential medication interactions, and potential side effects when using pharmaceutical agents in acute and preventive migraine treatment.
