Overview This comprehensive course, "Embracing a New Era in the Management of IgE-Mediated Food Allergies: A Data-Intensive and Case-Based Practicum for the Nurse Practitioner," equips nurse practitioners with cutting-edge knowledge and practical tools to effectively diagnose, manage, and prevent IgE-mediated food allergies. Through an in-depth exploration of immunopathology, real-world clinical cases, and the latest therapeutic advances—including monoclonal antibodies and oral immunotherapy—participants will gain a deeper understanding of both the scientific and psychosocial dimensions of food allergies. The course emphasizes a paradigm shift from reaction management to proactive prevention, with special attention to early allergen introduction and shared decision-making to optimize patient outcomes across the lifespan.
Objectives
- Examine the prevalence, clinical gravity, and pathophysiology of food allergies, with emphasis on the central mediating role of immunoglobulin E (IgE).
- Identify clinical practice gaps in the traditional management of food allergies, highlighting the shortcomings of oral immunotherapy (OIT) and the burden of food allergen avoidance.
- Evaluate the clinical trial evidentiary base for monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) as novel therapeutic approaches to food allergy, including ongoing studies and recent regulatory milestones.
- Design individualized treatment plans to safely and effectively reduce allergic reactions in patients with IgE-mediated food allergies in congruence with the latest data and available therapeutics.
