Overview Feeling itchy just reading the title? This presentation dives deep into the wide array of infestations, bites, and stings that dermatology practitioners encounter. Led by Avery Dinallo, DNP, FNP-C, DCNP, this session will provide a comprehensive overview of conditions caused by creepy crawlers, biting critters, and aquatic encounters. From identifying scabies to managing fire ant bites, this presentation will equip you with the knowledge to diagnose and treat a variety of conditions effectively.
Objectives
- Recognize the characteristic clinical presentations of common parasitic, arthropod-related, and zoonotic skin conditions.
- Differentiate between infectious, inflammatory, and psychocutaneous disorders that may mimic infestations.
- Apply evidence-based management strategies for conditions such as scabies, lice, cutaneous larva migrans, and delusions of parasitosis.
- Identify urgent presentations (e.g., Rocky Mountain spotted fever, black widow and brown recluse spider bites, jellyfish stings) requiring timely intervention.
- Counsel patients on prevention strategies and when to seek medical attention after exposures such as bites, stings, or infestations.
- Integrate dermatologic knowledge into NP practice to improve patient safety, outcomes, and confidence in managing dermatology presentations.
