Overview
This presentation will explore the pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and management strategies of hyperparathyroidism. Attendees will gain insight into the "calcium chaos" caused by overactive parathyroid glands, learn how to order and interpret appropriate diagnostic tests and review current treatment options including surgical, medical, and monitoring approaches. Case studies will highlight common challenges and practical decision making in primary hyperparathyroidism.

Objectives

Describe hyperparathyroidism including role of calcium, vitamin D and PTH.
Describe laboratory and radiological tests needed in work-up of hyperparathyroidism.
Discuss surgical and medical management of primary hyperparathyroidism.
Use clinical case studies to help further understand primary hyperparathyroidism.
