Overview: In this second episode of a three-part series, Dr. Ruth Carrico and Dr. Paula Tucker examine the growing challenge of medical misinformation and its impact on patient care. They explore the infodemic—the rapid spread of both accurate and inaccurate health information—and emphasize the need for effective infodemic management strategies, drawing key lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic. Listeners will gain insights into best practices for identifying credible sources, critically evaluating evidence-based scientific information, and addressing misinformation with patients. Through real-world experiences, they highlight the role of cognitive biases, social determinants of health, and technology in misinformation spread, while providing actionable strategies for nurse practitioners to foster patient trust, enhance communication, and navigate today’s complex health information landscape.
