2024 Commercial Motor Vehicle Medical Examiner Training

This Medical Examiner training course conforms to FMCSA’s training curriculum modules and topics on regulations and guidelines for conducting CMV driver medical examinations. FMCSA regulations and guidelines are reviewed regularly, and the training is updated as required. This course was last updated in August 2024.
Note: The AANP Commercial Driver Medical Examiner Training Program has continued to meet the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners' initial and 10-year training requirements. This course does not meet the periodic training requirements (5 years after initial certification). The periodic training is only offered through FMCSA. Details can be found on the NRCME website. Overview AANP’s CMV Medical examiner (ME) training course is designed to ensure healthcare providers – NPs/APRNs, PAs, MDs, DOs, and DCs, are educated on the core curriculum established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in preparation to sit for the NRCME Certification test. The course is completed entirely online and is divided into 11 subject modules. The entire course takes the typical participant approximately 5.75 hours to complete. Upon completion, the medical examiner will receive a certificate qualifying them to sit for the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) Exam. Our course also includes step-by-step guidance, forms, FAQs, and a study guide for in-depth review and preparation for the NRCME certification test. The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (National Registry) was developed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to improve highway safety and driver health by requiring that medical examiners be trained and certified to effectively determine whether a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) driver meets FMCSA’s physical qualification standards. The goal of the National Registry program is to promote and preserve the highest level of professional standards of training and care among medical examiners. To further that goal, the National Registry program requires that medical examiners performing CMV driver examinations be trained and certified. Objectives
Apply FMCSA medical standards and guidelines for determining driver certification outcome.
Identify the 8 core curriculum elements required for the Medical Examiner training.
Identify and appropriately implement FMCSA required medical forms.
Understand the physical demands for a commercial motor vehicle driver.
