Overview Technological improvements have contributed more than 200,000 children in the United States receiving some portion of their nutrition enterally. Feeding difficulties and the need for alternative supplementation can increase the stress of families with medically complex children. The medical home and the primary care clinician provide a safe space to discuss parental concerns and challenges. Cerebral palsy is the most common motor disorder of childhood. Motor ability varies within the population and so does the necessary equipment. Parents are tasked with use and application of equipment to support mobility in addition to the other medical challenges. This presentation will discuss challenges in nutrition and mobility faced by parents of children with medically complexity. This session will benefit primary care nurse practitioners who desire an improved understanding of how to assist and empower patients in navigating these challenges. Objectives
Discuss common indications for alternative feeding regimens and orthotic devices.
Describe primary care clinician rolls in technology to support feeding and mobility.
Identify recommendations for challenges related to feeding and mobility.
