    Overview
Palliative Care is an interdisciplinary approach to assessing and managing physical, spiritual, and/or psychosocial distress in patients dealing with the complexities of serious illness like cancer.  Advanced practice nurses are uniquely positioned with the knowledge and skill set to lead new models of care.  An innovative pilot academic practice partnership will demonstrate how to simultaneously provide patients access to palliative services while providing education, mentoring, and skills training to prepare nurses to manage complex disease syndromes.

    Objectives
    • Recognize drivers that inspire academia and practice innovation in serious illness
    • Discuss a single nurse-led innovation based on the higher education tripartite mission.
    • Compare and contrast strengths and challenges that exist with academic-practice partnership development.
    • Describe the unique role advanced practice nurses have in leading innovation in patient care.
    • Understand the value of the interdisciplinary team for providing patient-centeric healthcare delivery.
