Overview The presentation will discuss the outpatient treatment of both a breast abscess and breast pain. We will go over etiology, epidemiology, history & physical, clinical features, diagnosis, treatment options, prognosis, complications, and when to refer to specialty. Objectives
- Determine whether there is evidence to support any single method of managing a breast abscess over any other.
- Does data support the use of empiric antibiotics in patients with a breast abscess.
- Describe how to evaluate a non-lactating patient with a breast abscess.
- Be able to list the symptoms and causes of breast pain.
- Describe the difference between cyclical, non-cyclical, and extramammary breast pain.
- Determine how to best diagnose a patient with breast pain.
- List first line and second line therapies to manage a patient with breast pain.
