Overview
This session is now available for on-demand viewing!
Diabetes effects more than 31 million people in the U.S., 91% of whom have Type 2 Diabetes (T2D). Despite understanding the health benefits of intensive glycemic control, including decreased risk of myocardial infarction, microalbuminuria, and coronary vascular disease, only 52% patients have Hbga1c at or below 7%.
In this continuing education program, Dixie Harms and Shannon Idzik, both NPs with expertise in diabetes care, discuss how to overcome clinical inertia utilizing the 2020 American Diabetes Association (ADA) treatment algorithm. Three case studies will be presented to help NPs in clinical practice understand how and when to incorporate GLP-1 receptor agonists into practice, set individualized therapeutic goals, achieve rapid attainment of HbA1c targets, and help patients maintain glycemic control.
This 1.25 contact hours CE program including 1.25 pharmacology credit, will be hosted as a Webcast with live faculty Q&A directly following the session. The program will be available on-demand in the CE Center at no cost for 4 weeks following the webinar.
This live webinar is made available for NPs at no cost, thanks to an independent medical education grant from NovoNordisk.
Objectives
- Describe the short- and long-term adverse outcomes of elevated HbA1c levels.
- Appraise the importance of regular assessment of HbA1c levels and modification of treatment for patients who are not meeting goals.
- Diagram treatment plans for rapid attainment of HbA1c targets.
- Prioritize factors associated with a patient-centered approach for T2D management, including cardiovascular comorbidities, risk for hypoglycemia, and patient preferences.
- Explain individualized and evidence-based strategies to overcome barriers to T2D pharmacotherapy adherence.
