Overview
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common inflammatory skin disease worldwide. Despite being predominantly diagnosed in childhood (~80% of total cases), the prevalence of AD has been increasing in both children and adults consistently over the past several decades. When asked directly, more than 90% of AD patients report their itch as annoying or bothersome, even if they don’t voluntarily self-report the issue. This activity will inform and empower NPs to optimize the treatment plan using precision medicine and improve their patients' quality of life and health outcomes.
Objectives - Examine the patient-centric burden and clinical gravity of atopic dermatitis (AD), emphasizing the impact of itch and associated sleep interruption on health-related quality of life.
- Identify the complex pathophysiology and heterogeneous clinical manifestations of AD, focusing on treatment implications and emerging pharmacologic targets.
- Evaluate the evolving clinical trial evidentiary base for emerging biologic agents in treating AD, highlighting the therapeutic potential of targeting inflammatory and itch pathways.
- Develop evidence-driven, individualized treatment plans for patients with moderate-to-severe AD that integrate novel monoclonal antibodies into the calculus.
