By having a better understanding of our shared history, nurse practitioners will be in a stronger position to confront the challenges of both the present and future. Objectives
Identify when and where the nurse practitioner (NP) role was originated and the founders of the first NP program.
Relate the original purpose of the NP role.
Compare early NP education to that of NPs today.
Summarize three achievements of national NP organizations.
