Overview: Although considered by many Americans to be an innocuous illness, the health and economic consequences of annual influenza infections are substantial. Seasonal influenza burden can vary, with estimates from the last decade indicating an incidence of about 9 million to 41 million infections annually in the United States, resulting in hospitalization in approximately 1% to 2% of cases. Two expert faculty discuss the safety and efficacy of influenza vaccination and guide the listener through evidence-based strategies to promote influenza vaccination.
