Overview Obesity is the most common chronic disease in the U.S. and contributes to the development of numerous complications. This course will dive into what is happening at the cellular level and how it manifests in the complications that you treat routinely. Case studies will illustrate how excess adiposity negatively affects health and provide evidence-based guidance on how to reduce the disease burden and improve health. Objectives
Discuss the role of adipose tissue as an endocrine organ.
Describe 3 metabolic effects of excess stored adiposity.
Describe the negative health effects of excess stored adiposity.
Describe how lifestyle interventions and anti-obesity medications reduce excess, stored adiposity and improve health.
