Overview Improving the clinician’s knowledge and skills in the management of the patient with acute and chronic pain, will help demystify and reduce the misconceptions associated with managing such a subjective and otherwise challenging diagnosis. Clinicians in ALL areas of practice are faced with the challenges of managing patients with pain, from the adolescent with a fracture that cannot be immobilized because of unmanaged severe pain, to the 81 y/o male with severe congestive cardiac failure who struggles with daily chest pain. Understanding the pathophysiology and mechanisms of pain, the current research and treatments, will empower clinicians in their knowledge and understanding, to provide their patients with evidenced based advice and treatment options. This timely seminar will focus on the importance of accurate assessment and multimodal management of both acute and chronic pain, through understanding of pain pathophysiology and mechanisms. Pain affects all aspects of healthcare, it is political, and in many ways mysterious. Over the course of this well-defined 3-hour seminar the audience will learn how to differentiate the types of pain, offer evidenced-based treatments, and be exposed to new innovative treatment approaches available today. This activity includes 1.66 hours of CE on chronic pain management.
